CINCINNATI — As a federal investigation into the Cardinals continues for hacking into the Astros computer database, the player’s union has an interest to learn whether any information obtained could’ve affected a player’s market.
What is not yet known publicly is how much and what kind of proprietary Astros information the Cardinals accessed and how they used it.
Hypothetically, if the Astros kept bidding notes on free agents, or records of how they valued potential players, and the teams were both competing for the same player, the Cardinals could adjust their offer accordingly. A fair market for players is sacrosanct to the union.
