Turner Sports reporter Craig Sager doesn’t get many days off from fighting leukemia, but he got to enjoy one of them Sunday at Minute Maid Park.
Sager, who is being treated for acute myeloid leukemia at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, underwent a bone marrow transplant July 17 and is in the midst of a hundred-day maintenance program with daily clinic visits.
Sunday, with Turner Sports colleagues Ernie Johnson and Cal Ripken calling the Dodgers-Astros game on TBS, he came to the ballpark to visit friends and said his latest tests show that treatment is going well.
“I was on hard-core chemo 24 hours a day for 14 days had the (transplant) after I got into remission, and there’s a period after that to see if your body accepts the transplant,” Sager said.
