1950 - JR Richard is born

Born in a small town in Louisiana, Astros legend JR Richard was born. Known for his intimidation on the mound, Richard spent his entire 10-year career in Houston. With his best season coming in 1979, Richard retired with a 107-71 record, adding nearly 1500 strikeouts and a 3.15 ERA.

1962 - Astros introduce their first play-by-play guys

Gene Elston and Al Helfer get introduced by KPRC-AM as the Colt 45s first PBP duo in team history. They would later be joined by Loel Passe, who spent the start of his career with the Houston Buffs.
