ARLINGTON -- Outfielder George Springer was announced as the Astros' nominee for the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award on Monday, given annually to the Major Leaguer who best represents the game through positive contributions on and off the field, recognizing sportsmanship and community involvement.
Springer, who speaks with a stutter, is a spokesperson for the Stuttering Association for the Young and hosted his first annual George Springer Bowling Classic in July to benefit SAY. Chevrolet will present a $7,500 check to SAY as part of his nomination prior to the Astros' series opener against the A's on Friday at Minute Maid Park.
