OAKLAND -- Outfielder George Springer became the first Astros player to collect six hits in a nine-inning game on Monday night in Oakland.
Springer doubled and scored against A's starter Brett Anderson to start the game and slugged a 462-foot three-run homer in the second that put the Astros ahead, 5-0. He singled and scored in the fourth and had infield singles in the fifth and seventh innings. His sixth hit came in the ninth, a ground ball up the middle.
The only other six-hit game in Astros history was by Hall of Famer Joe Morgan on July 8, 1965, in a game that went 12 innings.
