Born out of pure necessity, the Astros were forced to turn to Spencer Arrighetti ahead of schedule. We’re likely talking about a season or so ahead of schedule. If it wasn’t for a bevy of injuries to essentially the equivalent of a full rotation, Arrighetti would still be pitching for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys today. Not any fault of his own, mind you. The right-hander was well-regarded before his Major League promotion and remains so now. But the situation called for Dana Brown to rely upon his organization’s internal depth, or what remains of it, and hoped that Arrighetti could learn on the fly.
