MINNEAPOLIS – Astros third baseman Jed Lowrie, who is on a season-high 0-for-27 skid and 0-for-16 on the six-game trip, was out of the lineup Sunday afternoon against the Twins.
“It’s a mental day off for him,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. “He’s had a rough road trip, results wise. He’s maintained his composure, his competitiveness, all that stuff.
“But he’s run into a little bit of bad luck here the last couple of games. He lined out a couple of times here (Saturday). He lined out in New York. Hits are eluding him right now.”
Luis Valbuena replaced Lowrie at third, and Chris Carter started at first base in the series finale at Target Field.
