The movement of scouts from team to team often isn’t noticeable for fans, but the departure of the highly respected Paul Ricciarini for the Marlins may well be an exception.
Astros fans may remember Ricciarini from the days he oversaw the draft as the team’s director of scouting (both pro and amateur), or the time he spent as senior director of player personnel and scouting, or when he was a special assignment scout. In seventeen years with the Astros, Ricciarini wore a lot of hats after he was hired by Gerry Hunsicker in November 1998.
Next year, Ricciarini will be with the Marlins, who hired him to a more senior position with broader responsibilities.
