Schmidt gets bumped by Santos at Corpus Christi

The Astros have assigned RHP Juan Santos to Corpus Christi from extended spring training. San-tos, a 39th-round pick of Houston in 2013 out of Arlington County Day School in Jacksonville, FL, has not appeared above the short-season level in his career. The 20-year-old posted a 3.16 ERA in 20 assignments for Tri-City last season, issuing 24 walks against 28 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched. Santos, who hails from Bayamon, PR, is averaging 7.6 walks per 9 innings during his brief tenure as a professional.

Santos takes the place of RHP David Schmidt on Corpus Christi’s roster. Schmidt was the tough-luck loser last night, scattering 3 hits (including the Chapman HR) over a career-best 4 innings.
