Rodgers undergoes Tommy John surgery

HOUSTON -- Astros prospect Brady Rodgers will be out of action for up to a year after he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday in New York. The surgery was performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. David W. Altchek.

Rodgers, 26, was named the Astros' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2016 and made his big league debut in September. Last year, he went 12-4 with a 2.86 ERA, 23 walks, 116 strikeouts, two complete games and one shutout in 22 starts for Triple-A Fresno. He's ranked as Houston's No. 21 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.
