In the course of the first four days of this bizarre baseball season:
- Clayton Kershaw was scratched for injury from opening day and put on the IL.
- Corey Kluber’s debut with the Rangers lasted one whole inning, before he was pulled for injury.
- Shohei Ohtani faced six batters in his first start, allowed 5 runs, and got none of them out.
- Justin Verlander was put on the IL for an elbow/forearm injury and may be out for the season.
Even the opening game of the season between the Yankees and Nationals was interrupted by such torrential downpours, doom seemed inevitable for anyone who hadn’t constructed a seaworthy wooden menagerie in advance.
