“I’ve got some people to play with in Oakland,” Lowrie said Wednesday.
Everywhere the ex-Astros infielder has gone, he’s played with teammates, and he got several of his Astros chums into the game in 2015.
Tablets and smartphones dominate clubhouses instead of card games these days, but the backgammon set was a return to the tactile. Jake Marisnick got in on the action, as did Chad Qualls and Jason Castro.
But not everyone knew the game prior to the season. Learning the game was an example of new-school and old-school coming together: digital apps gave way to face-to-face interaction.
