SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Southern California teams don't often have problems with rain delays.
But on Thursday night, games between the Washington Nationals at San Diego and the Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles were both held up by downpours.
It is only the fifth rain delay since San Diego's Petco Park opened in 2004. The last was on April 8, 2011, when a game against the Dodgers was suspended and finished the next day.
The Padres beat the Nationals 8-3 when the game resumed after a nearly two-hour stoppage Thursday.
At Chavez Ravine, the game-time temperature was 59 degrees and the teams played through showers, thunder and lightning.
