MLB assessing legality of daily fantasy sites

BOCA RATON, Fla. — New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s declaration Tuesday that daily fantasy sports constitute illegal gambling in that state is being monitored by Major League Baseball, the league’s top lawyer said Wednesday at the general managers’ meetings.

DraftKings and FanDuel — the former is MLB’s official daily fantasy game as part of a multi-year partnership — received cease-and-desist notices.

“We’re evaluating it. It just came out yesterday,” general counsel Dan Halem said. “In fact, we haven’t even seen a decision. We’re going to speak to our lawyers and then you know we’ll make a decision if we need to take any action.
