Late Astros broadcaster Milo Hamilton honored at memorial service

Milo Hamilton was remembered for professional accomplishments and personal friendships during a memorial service Friday that included hymns, scripture readings and, in a nod to the game to which he devoted his career, a final musical salute of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

Hamilton, the longtime Astros announcer who died last week at age 88, was eulogized by Jamie Hildreth, the Astros’ director of broadcasting; KBME (790 AM) sports talk host Matt Thomas, former Astros employee Christine O’Beirne and Baseball Hall of Famer Craig Biggio.

He also received military honors in recognition of his Navy service during World War II, when he began his broadcasting career on Armed Forces Radio, with the presentation of a flag to his son, Mark.
