The group of pitchers Lance McCullers aligned himself with Wednesday night with his first career complete game, an 11-strikeout performance against the Orioles, should make anyone blush.
McCullers, 21, became the fourth youngest pitcher in the last 50 seasons with more than 10 strikeouts and no walks in a complete game, according to Elias. The three younger pitchers were Dwight Gooden (he did it twice at age 19 for the 1984 Mets), Bert Blyleven (at age 20 for the 1971 Twins) and Kerry Wood (at age 20 for the 1998 Cubs against the Astros, in his famous 20-strikeout game that tied the current major league record).
