Juan Soto agreeing to a 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets wasn’t necessarily a surprise. Yes, there was a fair amount of suspense about whether he would sign with the team that resides in Queens or the Bronx Bombers, aka the Yankees. The amount was still staggering. But we all figured his contract would beat Shohei Ohtani’s record-breaking contract with the Dodgers last season. Ultimately, Soto did precisely that, with escalators included and no deferrals to boot. It was a good day for Soto and his fellow star outfielders who will enter the market in the future.
Kyle Tucker is one of those star outfielders scheduled to enter free agency next winter.
