OAKLAND, Calif. — The A’s don’t look like the A’s you used to know, dropping fly balls and losing in ways they shouldn’t. These days, it’s hard to recognize the first-place Astros, too.
Maybe the most comforting hit of all in Saturday’s 9-3 Astros win came when Chris Carter took the first pitch he saw in the top of the seventh inning and lined it back up the middle for an RBI single.
The Astros were already ahead 6-0, and two embarrassing A’s errors helped them load the bases for Carter. Josh Reddick dropped one fly ball and Cody Ross another.
