Astros catcher Jason Castro said he wasn’t nervous as Mike Fiers’ no-hitter wound down. He was turning over the game plan in his mind, especially the third time through the order.
For the catcher too, a first (or any) no-hitter is a great accomplishment, and Castro shared in Fiers’ glow late Friday night after the thrilling 3-0 win over the Dodgers.
“It’s like you’re kind of stuck between, do you continue to be aggressive? Do you try to keep guys off balance with offspeed? Like, what’s the best approach?” Castro said of the final outs. “Not only for the third time through the lineup, he’s probably a little bit fatigued throwing 90 pitches (a mark he reached in the sixth inning).
