Jacob Nix, the Astros fifth-round pick from last year who didn’t sign because of the Brady Aiken situation, went in the third round today to San Diego.
Nix, a pitcher, received a settlement from the Astros after filing a grievance. He had agreed to a contract but once the Astros didn’t sign Aiken because of health concerns the team couldn’t sign Nix because of how the baseball pool money for draft picks works.
Nix, who had committed to UCLA, instead went to IMG Academy in Florida to be eligible for this year’s draft.
