As Chris Carter and Jon Singleton continue to struggle at the plate for the Astros, Marwin Gonzalez got his eighth start of the season at first base Sunday against the Royals.
Gonzalez has been among the Astros’ most productive players of late, hitting .359 in the last 30 games entering Sunday, with two of the Astros’ five hits in a 2-1 10-inning loss Saturday night. He was hitless in four at-bats Sunday.
Manager A.J. Hinch said Gonzalez could see increasing time at first until Carter or Singleton round into form.
“It’s a place where we need to get a little more production, a little more consistency,” Hinch said.
