George Springer could return to the Astros on Wednesday if a minor league rehab assignment with Class AA Corpus Christi on Tuesday night goes well. He was in the lineup batting second as the designated hitter with the team playing in San Antonio.
Springer was hurt a week ago Tuesday and went to the special seven-day concussion disabled list the following day.
“We wanted him to play as soon as he was ready to play and today was the first day,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “So given that he’s not eligible to come off until tomorrow, we can get him some at-bats and continue to evaluate him.
