The Astros avoided a disastrous sweep yesterday in Seattle but still find themselves in third place in the AL West, 5.5 games behind the first-place Mariners.
It has been a big turnaround for the Astros pitching in May — 8th in MLB in ERA, compared to 26th in April. The bullpen was 25th overall in April, but ranks first in May with a 2.17 ERA.
Hitting has been somewhat the reverse. The Astros rank 10th overall in wRC+ in May but were fifth in April. Overall, the team remains fifth for the year at 112 wRC+, but in terms of runs, the Astros are ninth with 251 total.
