Former college teammate James McCann of Tigers not surprised by Dallas Keuchel’s success

DETROIT — Last year when Dallas Keuchel came to Detroit, he had his former University of Arkansas teammate Drew Smyly to see. This year, it’s another former Razorback, catcher James McCann.

“It just seems like Detroit wanted every Arkansas Razorback except for me,” Keuchel joked.

McCann, 24, was a freshman at Arkansas in Keuchel’s final year, 2009, when he was drafted by the Astros as a junior. It was McCann on Thursday in the series opener who hit a walk-off home run to left off Tony Sipp to end it in 11 innings, 6-5.
