Former Cardinals scouting director pleads guilty to five counts in hacking case

Former St. Louis Cardinals scouting director Chris Correa will be indicted today and plead guilty to hacking the Astros’ database, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.

Correa has agreed to plead guilty to five of 12 charges, the Journal reports.

Correa was fired in mid-season by the Cardinals after a criminal investigation into breaches of the Astros database system, called “Ground Control,” was reported.

When Correa resigned, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that he acknowledged breaking into the database to determine whether the Astros had stolen proprietary data from the Cardinals.

At the time, The former executive’s attorney denied wrongdoing by his client.
