Former Astros outfielder J.D. Martinez hit three homers and drove in six runs for the Tigers in Sunday’s 12-4 win over the Yankees in New York.
Martinez became the first Tigers player to hit three home runs in a game since Miguel Cabrera on May 19, 2013, at Texas. According to ESPN, the last Tigers player to homer three times in a game against the Yankees before Martinez was Charlie Maxwell on May 3, 1959.
In parts of three seasons with the Astros from 2011-13, Martinez hit .251 with 24 homers and 126 RBIs. Since joining the Tigers last season, Martinez has hit .
