On Saturday night Manny Machado, of the San Diego Padres was ejected by umpire Bill Welke after disputing a second ball/strike call, the second of which caused Machado to strike out. After the ejection Machado became verbally abusive for a prolonged period of time, hurling a long string of obscenities at the umpire. Then he threw his bat. This is what happened.
Today MLB announced a one-game suspension of Machado, which provoked this vigorous response from the Major League Baseball Umpire’s Association.
