NEW YORK — Dallas Keuchel is known for his routine, one he wasn’t able to follow exactly heading into Tuesday night’s start on short rest.
In a long interview with the Chronicle this season, the Astros ace detailed what he goes through in between starts during the regular season (at least in the earlier months, when pitchers are still throwing side sessions — many forego those and other activities late in the year to save energy).
Some of Keuchel’s teammates in his 2012 rookie year were “salty vets,” as he put it, who didn’t love the idea of pitchers doing their own work during batting practice rather than shagging balls.
