SEATTLE — That $10 million doesn’t sound so bad now, does it?
Astros prospect Jon Singleton played just 16 games in the big leagues before he was called up last week from Class AAA. In total, the 24-year-old first baseman has played 113 games in the majors, with a .171 batting average.
Yet, because of a controversial contract he signed last summer, Singleton will have made $2 million in 2015 by the time this major league regular season concludes, and $3.5 million dating to June 5 of last year — well more than many Astros players, from Evan Gattis to Collin McHugh to Dallas Keuchel to George Springer, have individually made in the same time.
