Chris Carter exits series opener with ankle sprain

Astros first baseman Chris Carter was pulled from Friday night’s series opener against the Rangers with a right ankle sprain.

Carter turned his ankle in the top of the second inning when he was pulled off the bag by second baseman Jose Altuve’s throw on Elvis Andrus’ leadoff single at Minute Maid Park.

Carter, who led the Astros in home runs in the 2013 and 2014, is hitting .185 with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs this season. Jon Singleton replaced him at first base.
