A guy who hit 20 home runs in a two-month span in 2014 was made a free agent on Wednesday night, as expected.
The Astros on Wednesday night non-tendered slugger Chris Carter. They were expected to keep their other seven arbitration-eligible players, including catcher Hank Conger — the only other one remotely on the bubble — but did not make an announcement immediately as the 11 p.m. CT deadline passed.
“I mean it’s a business, you know?” Carter said by phone. “There’s a few other guys (in the organization). … At this point, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen.
