Bregman has elbow surgery, likely ready for OD

HOUSTON -- Astros All-Star infielder Alex Bregman underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Friday morning to remove loose bodies, Astros president of baseball operations and general manager Jeff Luhnow announced.

The procedure, performed by Dr. Thomas Mehlhoff in Houston, means Bregman will be limited at the start of Spring Training. He is expected to be ready to play prior to the start of the regular season, which begins on March 28 at Tampa.

Bregman, 24, is coming off a career season in which he hit .286 with career highs in homers (31), RBIs (103), doubles (51), walks (96), on-base percentage (.
