Baltimore-Chicago game with no fans

By Angel Verdejo

More than 20 years later, John Humphrey Sr. still believes the right call was made.

Then a star running back on Galveston Ball’s football team, Humphrey and his teammates played against Beaumont Central in 1994 with no fans, cheerleaders bands or anyone else allowed in the stadium. The night before, a Ball student was shot during a freshman game between the two schools.

On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles announced their home game Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox will be closed to the public. This follows postponements Monday and Tuesday in the wake of violent disorder, riots and a curfew put in place in Baltimore.
