KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As Chris Carter and Jon Singleton continue to struggle at the plate for the Astros, Marwin Gonzalez got his eighth start of the season at first base Sunday against the Royals.
Gonzalez has been among the Astros’ most productive players at the late, hitting .359 in the last 30 games, with two of the term’s five hits in a 2-1 10-inning loss Saturday night.
Manager A.J. Hinch said Gonzalez offered the best combination of offense and defense against Royals starter Yordano Ventura, and he could see increasing time at first until Carter or Singleton round into form.
