Astros’ Jason Castro, A.J. Hinch get ribbed as alma mater drops football opener

The long knives were out in the Astros’ clubhouse on the first full-scale day of college football season, and caught squarely in the onslaught were Stanford alumni Jason Castro and A.J. Hinch in the wake of the Cardinal’s 16-6 loss to Northwestern.

Leading the abuse was Astros radio analyst Steve Sparks, whose daughter attends the University of Alabama and who dressed for the occasion in an Alabama polo shirt as the Crimson Tide prepared to play Wisconsin on Saturday night in Arlington.

“As soon as your feet touched dirt, I said, ‘Sparky isn’t going to let this go by,’” Hinch said.
