Class AA Corpus Christi manager Rodney Linares, the 2015 Texas League Manager of the Year, joined the Astros at Minute Maid Park on Friday as an extra coach on A.J. Hinch’s staff.
Linares was greeted with hugs from several of his former Hooks or Class A Lancaster players, including Carlos Correa, Vince Velasquez, Preston Tucker, Michael Feliz and Lance McCullers.
Linares is scheduled to remain with the Astros throughout the entire nine-game homestand. This is his second stint as an extra coach with the major-league club and the first since Phil Garner had him up for the final trip of the 2006 season.
