Center fielder Carlos Gomez has been cleared to pinch run or play defense, and Astros manager A.J. Hinch said prior to Saturday’s Rangers-Astros noon start that he could return to action any day.
“We’re still targeting one of the next couple of days to get him in there,” Hinch said.
Gomez’s availability to hit, however, remains in question. Hinch said Gomez planned to hit “with a little more intensity” in the batting cage before Saturday’s game.
Gomez has not played since Sept. 12 as he continues to recover from a left intercostal strain.
