Astros will not place Jason Castro on disabled list

MINNEAPOLIS – A month ago, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow would probably not have hesitated to place catcher Jason Castro on the disabled list with the right quad strain he suffered Friday against the Twins.

The calendar will help keep Castro off the DL as the team waits to add a catcher when rosters expand Tuesday.

“It’s an odd time of the year,” Luhnow said. ‘If this were a month ago, I think it’s a no-brainer and we’d probably put Jason on the DL. He’s going to miss some time, but it could be five days; it could be seven days; it could be 10 days.
