Astros trim pitching staff, releasing one and optioning two to the minors

The Houston Astros announced today that they unconditionally released left-handed reliever, while also optioning pitchers left-hander Kevin Chapman and right-hander Jandel Gustave to the minors.

Cotts, who turned 36 today, signed a minor-league deal with the Astros in February, The 10-year Major League veteran, who has played for the White Sox, Cubs and Rangers, spent last season between the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins. In 68 combined appearances,he posted a 3.41 ERA in 63.1 innings pitched. This spring after seven games, 7.1 innings pitched, Cotts record stood at 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA.

Kevin Chapman, a 28-year-old left-hander has spent part of the last three seasons in the majors, making a combined 43 appearances out of the bullpen for the Astros.
