Astros trade minor leaguer Ronald Torreyes to Blue Jays

The Astros traded infielder Ronald Torreyes, who was designated for assignment on May 7, to the Blue Jays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Astros took Torreyes off the 40-man roster last week to make room for outfielder Preston Tucker.

“There was quite a bit of interest in Torreyes,” Luhnow said. “There were like half a dozen teams that inquired about him. With (Carlos) Correa progressing, (Tony) Kemp progressing and (Nolan) Fontana doing well we felt we could afford to give him up and lose a little depth in terms of our middle infield depth chart.
