Astros take finale in Oakland to increase Division lead to 2 games

OAKLAND – Just when it seemed the A’s would rally back Wednesday night, the Astros reverted back to the formula that has kept them atop the AL West standings most of the season.

Colby Rasmus, Evan Gattis, Carlos Gomez and Marwin Gonzalez each homered and Hank Conger drove in four runs to help the Astros avoid the three-game sweep with a 11-5 victory over the A’s at O.co Coliseum.

By winning the finale, the Astros increased their lead atop the AL West to two games over the Rangers, who lost to the Mariners on Wednesday.

Collin McHugh (16-7) gave up six hits and five runs with two walks, two home runs and five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for the victory.
