Astros stymied by Giants, Madison Bumgarner in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO —You could throw the Astros a mulligan because of the master they faced on Tuesday night. Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, who threw a complete game and struck out 12 in a 3-1 Astros loss, was the World Series MVP last year.

You’re probably a generous type, then.

Look how well one of the game’s other top lefties, Scott Kazmir, pitched opposite Bumgarner. Most of the Giants’ damage Tuesday came on two poor pitches, a pair of Brandon Belt solo homers, one in the fourth to center, the next in the sixth to the opposite field, left.
