Astros slugger Chris Carter’s ankle improves, but not enough for action in series finale

Astros first baseman Chris Carter noticed some improvement on his sprained right ankle Sunday morning, but he isn’t optimistic about being available to help off the bench in the series finale against the Rangers.

“It’s a lot of less sore today than it was yesterday,” Carter said Sunday. “I’m walking a lot better than I was when it first happened and (Saturday).”

Asked if he could serve as a pinch hitter Sunday, Carter said, “Probably not right now, but we’ll see after this off-day to see how I feel.”
