Mark Teixeira’s two-run double in the eighth inning helped the Yankees retake the lead after squandering a six-run advantage Saturday afternoon, and New York went on to beat the Astros, 9-6, before a sellout crowd of 41,133 at Minute Maid Park.
The capacity audience, the Astros’ first at home since Opening Day, saw Houston fall behind in the early going with a calamitous performance from starter Brett Oberholtzer, then battle back to tie it before the Yankees got two runs off Pat Neshek (3-1) in the eighth.
Oberholtzer provided controversy early on, with his ejection after giving up his second homer in two innings with a pitch that was too close to Alex Rodriguez, and controversy reared its head once more in the eighth.
