HOUSTON -- As part of Major League Baseball's Honorary Bat Girl initiative, the Astros recognized breast cancer survivor Donna Rodgers on Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park. She also threw out a ceremonial first pitch.
"I think it's a great awareness program that they've started," said Rodgers, who has been in remission four years. "When I was diagnosed with cancer, I wasn't even thinking about breast cancer because I really never heard anything about it. Now that I've been diagnosed, I can make other people aware through information that I find out.
"I'm so pleased that Major League Baseball, being so worldwide, that they were able to have these campaigns so they could get the awareness out to people.
