I introduced the concept of a Player A and Player B test earlier. In general, the idea is to remove names to remove the emotional attachment to those names. For those that have been living in a cave, the San Francisco Giants just signed Willy Adames to a seven year, 182 million dollar contract. The math says that is a 26 million AAV. This obviously has two immediate impacts for the Astros and their fans.
First, Adames was one of the proposed backup plans for the Astros. That is obviously off the table. Secondly, any time a new contract is signed it provides a benchmark for future contracts.
