KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Astros center fielder Carlos Gomez, who has been dealing with a left intercostal strain since Sept. 13, was out of the starting lineup Thursday night for Game 1 of the Division Series.
Gomez hit a home run in the Astros’ wild-card victory over the Yankees on Tuesday night in his return to the lineup after missing the season-ending three-game series in Arizona last weekend.
“I’m a little sore today, but that’s what we expected,” Gomez said. “But I can start tomorrow and play defense or pinch run today.”
Manager A.J. Hinch, who started Jake Marisnick in center in Game 1, says Gomez will start Game 2 of the best-of-five series on Friday afternoon.
