The Astros announced several front-office changes in the wake of assistant GM David Stearns’ departure to the Brewers as GM and a changing of the guard in the team’s training staff.
Quinton McCracken will be director of player personnel, where he will assist GM Jeff Luhnow in free agent acquisitions, trades and amateur signings.
Bill Firkus will be director of sports medicine and performance and will oversee the club’s medical practices, including injury prevention and rehabilitation. The team’s top two trainers — Nate Lucero (contract not renewed) and Rex Jones (retirement)– will need to be replaced.
Other moves:
Brando Taubman will be director of baseball operations where he will assist in contract negotiations, financial planning and roster construction.
