Astros minor-league pitcher Jose Rosario died in a motorcycle accident Sunday night in his native Dominican Republic.
Rosario, 20, split last season between the Astros’ Dominican summer league team and the short-season Gulf Coast League team in Kissimmee, Fla.
“Jose was a beloved member of the Astros Latin American program,” said Oz Ocampo, the Astros’ director of international operations. “He will be remembered as a long, lanky-framed pitcher with tremendous ability, an outgoing personality and an ever-positive disposition.”
Rosario had been signed by the Astros as a minor-league free agent in December 2013. A native of Salcedo in the Dominican, He was 1-5 with a 5.
