Although the Astros lost 7-5, rookie righthander Vince Velasquez drew praise from manager A.J. Hinch for his long relief outing Tuesday night against the Mariners.
He took over with two on and two out with an 0-1 count on Brad Miller in the third after Scott Feldman exited with right shoulder discomfort.
“Did a great job,” Hinch said of Velasquez. “First time in that type of situation for him. He had been up warming up a couple of times during the game. So, he was pretty loose coming into that setting.”
Miller greeted Velasquez with an RBI single to center to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead.
